Fuel prices slowly going through the roof.

February 24th, 2010

Has anyone noticed how fuel prices are slowly creeping up? Not only have I noticed that, but as I travel a fair few miles every week, I’ve noticed the difference in prices. At one Shell petrol station in Hopwood, (just off the M40) diesel is currently 122.9 pence per litre. A few miles down the road at West Heath, another Shell petrol station is selling diesel at 109.9 pence per litre. How can this be allowed to happen? Check out the highest and lowest in your area here – http://www.petrolprices.com/search.html?search=b30

I’ve got to thinking about accents lately too. It started the other night whilst listening to Richard Hawley in ‘The Ocean’ on Radio 2. People’s origins from all over the country were instantly recognisable by their accents – Stuart David from Belle and Sebastian (Glasgow) Robert Wyatt (Bristol) and The Watersons (Whitby), along with the show’s host being the architects of those thoughts.

Why is it…

February 22nd, 2010

…that the one thing you make an effort for never works out? I made the effort to go to Ikea this evening, to get some boxes to start packing. The cheapest large boxes had sold out, so I had to go for the ones that were more expensive, and not as big.

Defender have got some songs up on Myspace – check them here – http://bit.ly/an9v37

Also check out Juffage, especially the video nearly half way down the page. Brilliant. http://bit.ly/nDA5N

Testing mobile uploads

February 20th, 2010

This is a post from the wordpress blackberry application. I’ve tried to insert an image, but it isn’t clear whether it’s made it’s way into the post.

A man balancing a tent

EDIT: This didn’t work, as the photo was too large when posted initially and I had to edit it after. There’s a work around for the moment, described here;

Long drives

February 19th, 2010

After getting in the car at 4.30 in Banbury, a quick stop off to pick up the big C in Brum, I arrived in Leeds just over 3 hours later. Not too bad, but too late to write anything, draw anything, or even think. This keeps up my giving up not writing on here though.

WSS upload size and other stuff

February 18th, 2010

Had cause to increase the maximum upload size on WSS today. It’s done through Central Administration > Application Management > Web Application General Settings. Dependent on your network, you might need to increase the Connection timeout in IIS (default is 120 secs). Absolutely enthralling, I know, but I have to write something, it may as well be useful to somebody, somewhere…

Here is a link about climate change, that has links to interesting stuff in it.

I’m looking forward to listening to this tonight. The first episode was fantastic, and filled me with all sots of longings and nostalgia. Richard Hawley has such a listenable voice, so it may just have been the yorkshire accent, but I like to think it might be something a little more mystical.

Just keeping on with the lent thing. This will be on the wall when I move in a couple of weeks. After it’s been tidied up little. (The picture, not the house)

More time spent with sharepoint today, trying to get some webparts using UpdatePanel.

I missed a day…

February 16th, 2010

…but lent doesn’t officially start until tomorrow.

On the ipod…

Today was spent messing with a couple of sharepoint servers, updating them to .NET 3.5 SP1 and enabling AJAX and LINQ. Thrilling stuff. Help from Mike Amerlaan.

Having my share of pancakes too. I was a massive tosser, as evidented here;

Happy New Year China

Happy New Year China. Lets see what Arcadian has to offer today.

Right then…

February 14th, 2010

It’s past a one year anniversary of my last post. It’s the beginning of lent next week, and I’m going to give up not publishing something on the blog every day. I’ll get into practice now. This is on the ipod right now. Maybe that’s a starting point. I post a link to what I’m listening to whilst posting.

Gordon Lightfoot. You might know him from trigger happy tv, but for some reason reminds me of my Granddad. Him and Jim Reeves, Bing Crosby, and more than anyone, Nat King Cole. Definite easy listening.

Interesting programme on the bbc tonight – The Virtual Revolution – I’ve missed most of the series, but it looks like the sort of programme that tries to open the eyes of the general public to the real cost of the internet. Some people might be bothered by it, others might think about it for a minute or two, before moving on to something less boring instead. It’s a warning about all the free information we are all giving away, every time we search, post, download etc. It’s worth thinking about.

Former banking bosses say ’sorry’
