Mono and Rose Kemp at The Asylum

I went to see Mono at The Asylum in Birmingham last night. Support came from Rose Kemp. I was hoping that she’d perform Tiny Flower, or Fire in the Garden, or get lost in some looping. But she didn’t. There were numerous occasions that made me think of the charge of the Orcs in LOTR. To say I was disappointed with her performance is perhaps a little unfair, as it was probably my expectations that were wrong, having only heard her album ‘A handful of Hurricanes’. I was more disappointed in having to move to get away from the terrible stench of body odour from somebody stood near me. Do some people just forget to wash?

Mono, on the other hand, were incredible, and I was moved, mesmerised and spellbound. It even made me forget my back ache.

Following on from my thoughts on regional accents last week (ish?), Craig ‘Vinnie’ Whitehead has a new song up on his myspace, dealing with criticism he’d received that he sang in a fake American accent. Worth a listen. You can really pick up the drawl ‘Arrrm from Hull’.
